The Hilo Woman’s Club proudly presents “Sounds of the Season,” a classical holiday concert featuring Hilo’s own Apapane String Quartet at 6 p.m. this Saturday.

The musical ensemble includes Cathy Young, violist, founder, artistic director, conductor, arranger and player for the Orchid Isle Orchestra, a community string orchestra.

Young is the violist in the Mulligan String Quartet, 19th Parallel (piano trio), and has performed with many chamber music ensembles. She teaches private and group lessons.

Alden Young, a violinist, earned a violin performance degree from Boston Conservatory Music at Berklee and has performed in various ensembles including Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra, Maui Chamber Orchestra and the Volcano Chamber Players.

He plays piano or violin and serves as concertmaster for Orchid Isle Orchestra.

Marya Szaur, a violinist, has played with the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a performing arts degree and has worked with various ensembles as a singer and multi-instrumentalist. She attended Idyllwild Arts Academy and Coronado School of the Arts and is currently writing and producing an album of original songs.

Kelly Stuart, the cellist, is a graduate of the Boston University School of Music, a member of the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra, and a founding member of the Ebe Ensemble (Dresden, Germany). Stuart currently is a frequent performer at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

Saturday’s concert will feature “an evening of traditional holiday and classical music selections that will fill the air with the excitement and beauty of the season.

The entire family will enjoy a memorable evening of great holiday cheer at this extremely delightful and festive event,” according to the organizers.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children 18 years and under. Pupus and hot cider will be provided.
